Dear Colleagues,

The investment climate in Russia’s oil and gas industry, as well as its economy overall, depends on many factors, probably the most important of which is the legal framework within which it operates. In the past decade or more the legislative framework in Russia has undergone and continues to undergo rapid changes, which if not monitored and understood regularly, may result in lost opportunities or increased risk to the investor. Unfortunately, but to a large extent understandably, in respect of new legislation and the implementation of that legislation the Russian government continues to operate in a trial and error mode much of the time, thus making Russian law a moving and often elusive target. The creation of RusEnergy Law Journal was the brainchild of the Chief Editor of the well known and respected Neft Gas i Pravo Journal, Victor Nesterenko, responding to the demands and needs of the Russian oil and gas industry for a viable tool to stay abreast of the law and its impact in this industry. RusEnergy Law Journal will answer this important need. In fact, though still in its infancy, RusEnergy Law is already viewed by international industry players as the essential tool to slow this target to an understandable focus enabling the lawyer and investor alike to discern new legal issues, trends, and developments, as well as understand the application and practice of the law.
